Date: 10 September 2008
Kuala Lumpur - The 10th edition of THE LANGKAWI INTERNATIONAL MARITIME AND AEROSPACE EXHIBITION will be held in Langkawi Island from 1 – 5 December 2009.
In a bold move, the Ministry of Defence appointed HW LIMA Sdn Bhd as the sole and overall organiser for LIMA ’09, moving away from its traditional two organiser structure implemented at previous LIMA exhibitions since 1997. In a ceremony held at the ministry’s premises in Jalan Padang Tembak, Deputy Minister of Defence, YB Datuk Wira Abu Seman Bin Tun Haji Yusop presented the Letter of Appointment to HW LIMA Sdn Bhd Executive Chairman, retired Vice Admiral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Wahab Nawi.
The ceremony was also attended by the Secretary General of Defence, Dato’ Abu Bakar B Haji Abdullah, the Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz B Haji Zainal and all Service Chiefs, including the Director General of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition is one of the largest defence and civil showcases in the world, regularly attracting the global maritime and aerospace industry to Langkawi. LIMA in 2007 was attended by nearly 500 exhibitors and visited by 285 delegates from 48 countries. Approximately 70,000 trade and public visitors visited the 5 day event.
Part of the attraction of LIMA is the air displays by leading aerobatic teams and the flotilla of warships that sail into Langkawi for the occasion. Visitors are also treated to some of the latest naval and air assets in the world, most of them performing capability demonstrations.
LIMA was first organised in 1991 and the brainchild of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir B Mohamed. HW LIMA Sdn Bhd has been the organiser for the highly successful maritime segment of LIMA.
